Neuropsychology deals with the study and rehabilitation of the main cognitive functions – language, attention, orientation and memory.
It is useful in dementia – even those resulting from natural ageing – but also after strokes, traumatic injuries resulting from an accident, or other specific neurological disorders.
The feeling that “my head isn’t what it used to be” or that “my personality has changed drastically” after an accident usually indicates a need for this type of intervention.
The sooner action is taken after the injury, the better the prognosis tends to be, since in many cases it is possible to delay or even reverse the symptoms.
